Pianist Dr. Susan Duehlmeier-"Rhapsody in Blue"
Dr. Susan Duehlmeier is the Piano Area Chair for the School of Music at the University of Utah, where she is designated a Presidential Teaching Scholar. Dr. Duehlmeir is a Grammy-nominated artist who has appeared many times with the Utah Symphony and numerous other orchestras including the Boston Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Radio Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic, the Westminster Orchestra and the Salt Lake Symphony. She was chosen as the American Classical Artist at the Fourth International Shanghai Radio Music Festival in China. She has performed throughout the United States and abroad, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Spain, Poland, Czekoslavakia, Great Britain, Austria, and Greece. Dr. Duehlmeir was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for her collaboration with colleague Bonnie Gritton of the Wolking concerto for two pianos titled "Letting Midnight Out on Bail."
Dr. Duehlmeir serves on the Board of Directors of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, she is on the nominating committee of the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and she is Vice President of the Pianists of the Americas organization in New York. In addition to her university teaching, she maintains a class of private students who have won prizes in all major state-wide, national, and international competitions. She is recognized as a Master Teacher by the National Music Teachers Association, and was designated a Founder's Fellow at the 2007 International Music Teachers Association Convention in Canada. She has judged the Gina Bachauer International Competition, the Missouri International Competition (chairman of the jury), and many local and regional competitions. She has given numerous master classes and lectures including those at the Missouri International Competition, the International Piano Festival in Scotland, and in Shanghai, China.
Dr. Duehlmeier received her D.M.A. degree from Boston University where she studied with Leonard Shure and Theodore Letvin and performed in the master classes of Leon Fleisher, Karl Schnabel, Jorg Demus, Gyorgy Sebok and harpsichord with Igor Kipnis. She received her B.Mus and M.Mus at the University of Utah under Gladys Gladstone Rosenberg.
On March 20th she will perform George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with Murray Symphony.
Film composer Merrill Jenson-"Compositions"
Internationally-known composer and arranger Merril lJenson has written and arranged film scores for over thirty films. Some of his film scores have included "Windwalker", "Harry's War", and "Legacy". Jenson composed the music for the award-winning "Homefront" commercials and films such as "How Rare a Possession." Most recently, Mr. Jenson composed the score for the critically acclaimed film "Emma Smith: My Story" which played in many theaters across the country. He has also composed music for many television commercials. Mr. Jenson has a degree in music composition from Brigham Young University, and has worked for years with Bonneville Communications. He wrote the music for the three films that have played in the Legacy Theater in the Joseph Smith Memorial Buidling on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Mr. Jenson has also composed several concert productions that have included a symphony that premiered at Carnegie Hall. On March 20th he will conduct Murray Symphony in a selection of his compositions "Land of the Elves", "Ice Princess and the Snow King", "Eternal Love", and other original pieces.
